Mitt Romney’s comment on this mornings CNN that “I’m not concerned about the very poor…,” needs to be taken in the context of his whole sentence. Many would rather snip out these few words of his interview with Soledad O’Brien and paint it as a terrible gaffe. But the gotcha ploy is unlikely to work since the interview was recorded.
What he said was, “I’m not concerned about the very poor, there’s a safety net there, and if it needs repair I’ll fix it. I’m not concerned about the very rich, they’re doing just fine. I’m concerned about the heart of America, the 95 per cent of Americans who are right now struggling.”
