Manley will not run for leadership

John Manley says he has lost the "burning ambition necessary" to campaign. With that, the Grits have lost one of its top three potential candidates for party leadership. This makes the second front-line candidate to remove his name from consideration—Frank McKenna withdrew earlier.

Toronto MP Bob Rae and New Brunswick MP Dominic LeBlanc have already declared that they intend to run. And it is widely expected that Toronto MP and deputy Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff will soon enter the race.

Former Quebec cabinet ministers Denis Coderre and Martin Cauchon and MPs Ruby Dhalla and David McGuinty are rumoured to be considering entering their names.

Based on this potential line up, my guess is the winner will be one of Ignatieff or LeBlanc. Both would be formidable adversaries and should not be underestimated by us Tories.
