Rumours abound today that Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is in the lead for the post of Secretary of State in President-elect Barack Obama’s cabinet. This one makes sense to me, especially if she has concluded that there will be no way of unseating President-elect Obama from the Democratic Party’s endorsement in 2012—a realistic conclusion, in my view.
Being Secretary of State would keep her at the forefront of national and International politics in a way a senate seat could never quite equal.
Should this rumour prove to be true, Senator Obama would be following the lead of George W. Bush who chose his most serious rival within the Republican party at the time of his first election in 2000, Colin Powell, for the same post.
Keep your friends near and your enemies nearer, eh?
