Ignatieff plans to run for leader of the Grits

The Canadian Press reported earlier this morning that on Thursday MP Michael Ignatieff will officially join fellow MPs Bob Rae and Dominic LeBlanc as contenders for the Liberal leadership. Messrs. Rae and Ignatieff were the front runners in 2006 when Stéphane Dion outmaneuvered them to win the leadership.

ignatieff Others still weighing their options include Toronto MP Gerard Kennedy, former cabinet minister Martin Cauchon, Ottawa MP David McGuinty and Brampton MP Ruby Dhalla.

This should come as no surprise to anyone. Mr. Ignatieff, who has been the deputy leader for the past 30 months or so, will be considered the front runner by most pundits, and regardless of how many others enter the race, I believe the winner will be one of these three early declarers.
