Fortier to seek seat on October 14

CBC News reports that, “Michael Fortier, who was appointed to cabinet in 2006 despite not being elected to office, resigned from the Senate on Monday to run as a Conservative candidate in Quebec in the upcoming federal election.”

I'm pleased that Fortier—whose appointment as the Tory's public works minister sparked controversy, and who has since passed on other opportunities to run in by-elections—has decided to live up to his long-term commitment to run in the next general election.

Fortier seemed to me to have been a competent public works minister and, God knows, Canada needs competent ministers. I wish him the best of luck on October 14.
