VP debate: Joe-sixpack for president

If you really believe that any Joe off the street can be pumped full of facts and figures then put in the White House as leader of the US and the Western World, then you'll be quite comfortable with Sarah Palin's performance in the VP debate last night.

In a debate to help decide who becomes the next president, we hear again and again about having been mayor of a sub-10,000 population town. Give me a break.

The president of the US could find her or himself across the table from world leaders who have enough firepower to destroy all life on earth. My God, how laughable to believe that anything learned as mayor of a town not much larger than a Canadian village could be relevant in such a confrontation.

  1. "My God, how laughable to believe that anything learned as mayor of a town not much larger than a Canadian village could be relevant in such a confrontation."

That's why I think it is so funny that Obama looks like he's going to be President. What really has that guy done? It's like a race to the bottom when you compare both him and her, except I think she's probably got a little more managerial experience.

Imagine if the MSM had actually done their job and raked Obama over the coals with questions like "when did you ever meet with world leaders one on one to discuss policy" or "have you ever run anything larger than a popsical stand", we'd be looking at a Hillary/Biden ticket right now. The MSM created this guy who looks like a deer in the headlights whenever he's asked for a substantial answer.

However I think the US needs Obama. Over the last 8 years we've had Bush behaving like a Democrat domestically with his spending sending the US debt higher than he should have with increasing social spending like there is no bottom of the well. Obama is just the guy to continue Bush's legacy and completely drive things out of control both with domestic spending on projects with no proven benefit and there is no doubt he'll be able to demolish any potential gains made in the Iraq debacle.

Hopefully when completely beat down, and without only themselves to blame things on and not Bush then they'll rally and we'll get an awakening similar to what Thatcher was able to pull off. We need a strong US for Canada both economically and politically.

  2. Russ,
Your disdain for leadership experience outside of a major metropolis is telling. What is pertinent is not the size of the town but the principles upon which the individual based their decisions and whether or not those principles resonate with the majority. I am less concerned about whether a candidate knows sufficient details to handle the 'gotcha' type questions than I am with whether or not they can articulate an acceptable principled position that can be demonstrated to be consistent over time - this latter being key. Details/facts they can learn, character is not something you can cram for.

However, from your post it appears you are more interested in readiness to lead as something other than demonstrated character. That leads, I believe, to a very shallow assessment of experience and one which probably suits Obama very well.

  3. You can be such a condescending elitist. Did you actually watch and listen to Biden. The true voice of Washington 'experience'? He's a FOOL. And a LIAR.

"If you really believe that any Joe off the street can be pumped full of facts and figures then put in the White House as leader of the US and the Western World, then you'll be quite comfortable with Sarah Palin's performance in the VP debate last night."

And the answer to your implied question --- IS YES.(see * below)

The relevant attribute of a successful leader is JUDGMENT. Not KNOWLEDGE per se. Anyone can become knowledgeable enough as long as they have the judgment to know that they need more information in order to make a decision, the judgment to seek out and evaluate informed sources, and the ability to reason out the correct course of action from the facts presented.

I obviously can't say that Ms.Palin has that judgment, but I damn well know for certain that Joe Biden surely does not. He's been blowharding for 36 LONG YEARS. For example, remind us all again of what Joe from Scranton's epic plan for suceess in Iraq was. If I recall his plan did the almost impossible by getting virtually EVERYONE to agree that he was a complete idiot and that his 'plan' was a complete POS guaranteed to cause unbelievable bloodshed.

And on the judgment thingy ? Do you honestly believe that the financial/economic SUB-PRIME catastrophe could possibly have been made worse if some guys grabbed off the street had been making all the decisions over the past decade ? Maybe those guys would have said --- Hey you can't issue non-secured mortgages to DEADBEATS and INCOMPETENTS. What happens when, not if, they all default? Not on my watch you can't. You criminally greedy poltroons.

In your world I guess it's fine for the emperor to wander around au naturel just as long as the 'elites' never mention that annoying little factoid. Because he's one of 'them'.

I think the whole system is broken almost irreversibly and it is broken almost wholly because of people like Joe From Scranton Biden and his time serving, back-scratching, log-rolling, lying-though-his-teeth ilk.

Give me the main street guy every day. As long as he/she is perfectly well aware of his/her 'gaps', I trust that he/she will do a THOUSAND times better than the clueless clowns now running the asylum.

    Seven Hundred BILLION Dollars.

That's BILLION with a B. And not one dollar of the DISASTER was the fault of the 'rubes' you so clearly disdain. Not one dollar.

I tell you this in all humility. I could have achieved a better result than that. Working part-time. Drunk. AND stoned.

Hell I am willing to bet that you could have as well. Hmmm, but maybe based on your thought process here, I might not wager a large amount.
